TICKHILL CHURCHYARD
St Mary's Church in Tickhill, the village where Highland Carbon's operational office is located, is rewilding a corner of the cemetery. The vicar refers to this as God's Green Acre. This rewilding initiative was instigated by the Church itself.
Highland Carbon has sponsored the installation of an owl nesting box. The box has been installed by Adrian Blackburn of the North Nottinghamshire [Bird] Ringers. Adrian will measure and ring chicks born in the box for purposes of tracking.
The church had already started to leave the vegetation to grow in this vicinity for part of the year. It will be introducing yellow rattle to suppress the grass and to begin to return the area to a wildflower meadow. Highland Carbon will be supporting that activity also. Controlling the tall grass will enhance the aesthetics of the wild corner.
Highland Carbon also supports Hedgehog Street Tickhill with a donation and through the provision of veterinary care.
Previously, the Managing Director was a member of the Church's fundraising committee, successfully achieving a capital appeal to restore the roof.
