Location
Located in the Yorkshire Dales to the north of Skipton. This project has been undertaken in partnership with the Ribble River Trust.
Description
The aim of the project is to create a woodland for nature conservation and restoration. This nature based solution is connecting people with nature. A key feature of the project is to improving in-river habitat and water quality whilst delivering natural flood management and carbon sequestration.
This project improves access to nature and thus improving health and wellbeing whilst offering educational benefits.
Design
A riparian scheme with a permanent and diverse native broadleaves including: hawthorn, hazel, wild cherry, bird cherry, blackthorn, crab apple, holly, goat willow, oak, silver birch, downy birch, rowan, alder, field maple and aspen.
Conservation Features
Forest of Bowland AONB and complementing the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A key conservation element of the project is the re-establishment of aspen, a tree known for its vibrant, golden leaves during autumn.
Planting trees along the river banks enhances water quality which benefits dippers, trout and otters.
