FOR BUYERS

At Highland Carbon we envision a future with a livable climate, spectacular natural areas full of biodiversity and sustainable communities for people to enjoy.

Highland Carbon is a purpose-driven business founded by a Zoologist with experience working in international conservation.  We use that expertise to shape and to vet climate forest and wetland projects undertaken in the UK, which achieve Pending Issuance Units and certified carbon units.  Highland Carbon is the pioneer in the supply of "Conservation Grade UK Carbon Units."

Highland Carbon has won the award for 'Best UK Carbon Credit Supplier' for four years in a row in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 - each year that we applied.  During 2024, we won the award for 'Best Natural Landscape Restoration Experts'.  We were recently lauded by the British Chambers of Commerce as one of several "Inspirational, innovative UK businesses working on green solutions during the lead up to COP28."

Since our inception, we have offered authentic, traceable UK carbon units with genuine nature and biodiversity impacts.  From 2025, we are also offering Nature Credits themselves through rewilding initiatives that complement climate projects.  It is a 'win win' scenario.  We are offering broader suite of services to maximise value to our landowner customers.  So doing also ensures even greater landscape and conservation impacts for our company clients.

The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth.  One in seven species are under threat of extinction.  We believe that nature-based carbon offsetting projects and rewilding initiatives, when carefully sited and designed appropriately, present the best opportunity in history to rebalance nature.

Highland Carbon partners with a dozen large, Scottish estates within the frameworks of the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code.  We have also sold carbon from three English projects located in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Northumberland.  We also partner with a Welsh estate in the context of Sequoia Carbon.

Our Managing Director, Richard Clarke, has more than thirty years of experience recruiting and supporting Corporate Social Responsibility partners in both the United Kingdom and United States.  He has worked with more than one hundred blue chip company clients, for example: IKEA, Sainsburys, M&S, HSBC, Dorothy Perkins, Disney, General Motors, Royal Caribbean, TK Maxx, Steelcase, Rolls Royce, CNN and Ford Motor Company.

Our nature restoration projects bring enormous community economic development benefits to the UK's remotest communities.  Year-round employment opportunities are relatively few.  We endeavour to hire local people, whenever possible, to undertake work such as: groundwork, road access, deer fence installation, tree planting, ecological assessments and hydrological engineering.

Our charismatic projects offer deeply engaging content for Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) reporting.  We can also support communications with content available for public relations, investor relations, employee engagement, customer engagement and digital campaigns.  In short, we bring significant added value to our carbon partnerships.

In addition to UK nature impacts, we curate offsetting from the international market, which enables us to offer stacked solutions and a range of certifications for Net Zero, Carbon Neutral, Nature Positive and Climate Positive.  We supply international offsetting opportunities featuring the Gold Standard, Verified Carbon Standard, BioCarbon, Universal Carbon and United Nations (UNFCCC-CDM) quality marks.  We deliver a bespoke, blended solution that meets your price point and output requirements.  For example, through a combination of nature-based solutions and renewable energy projects.

We are currently finalists for the '2024 Green Business of the Year Award' with the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce.  We were shortlisted for the 'Environmental Impact Award' by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in 2024.  We won the 'Green Business of the Year Award' from the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce in 2023, having been runners-up in 2022.  We were also finalists for the 'South Yorkshire Sustainability Award' in 2023.
